Ossabaw Island is a 26,000 acre barrier island off the coast of Georgia. During the summer of 2018, I was able to spend a week on island with the family who formerly owned Ossabaw, before they sold it to the state in 1976. The state will officially claim the island once the owner's daughter (now 107) passes away. The island is full of magical realism, thick with Southern heat and memories that go back to Spanish settlers.
